Fertility Dietitian + Fertility Nutritionist

Written by Teresa Maiorano, RD, BASc, BSc

Hi there!

I’m Teresa Maiorano, fertility dietitian (fertility nutritionist), cookbook author, and advocate for helping individuals and couples nourish their way to parenthood. Working hard as a proud mom to two kids, I know firsthand how nutrition can play a transformative role in life’s most precious journey: growing a family.

In this article, I share how my personal experiences, professional background, and passion for reproductive health shaped my career. Becoming passionate about empowering others with the tools to boost their fertility.

Why I Chose Fertility Nutrition?

For me, fertility nutrition is more than just a career, it’s my life. As a result of working in various sectors and never feeling compelled to take action, I knew something had to change so I opened my private practice. Shortly thereafter, I was approached by a local fertility clinic (Tripod Fertility Clinic) to work on their team to help patients improve their chances. Then I realized I had to do this. As can be seen through the research numbers, nutrition is crucial when trying to conceive. Despite that, the more people I met, the more I learned that nutrition is often overlooked even though it is the most powerful, controllable tool we have to increase chances of success.

That’s when I decided to make a difference. As a dietitian already passionate and well aware of food’s power to heal and transform, I got to work. In fact, pairing my career path with a focus on reproductive health allowed me to support others in one of the most meaningful ways I could ever imagine.

The Science Behind Fertility Nutrition

On the whole, fertility nutrition isn’t just about eating your protein, it’s about creating a personalized approach to support hormonal balance, egg quality, and overall reproductive health.

To put it differently, here are some of the key principles I include when working:

  • Prioritizing whole foods rich in antioxidants.
  • Boosting micronutrient intake for optimal hormone health.
  • Analyzing dietary intake to meet specific nutrient needs.
  • Supporting gut health, PCOS, Endometriosis, Male factor, unknown infertility conditions and so much more to help you get pregnant faster,
  • Empowering you to make informed, confident nutrition decisions.

Beyond this, my holistic, science-backed approach not only enhances fertility outcomes but also lays the foundation for a healthy pregnancy.

My Journey to Becoming a Fertility Dietitian / Fertility Nutritionist

It all started here.

Academic Foundation

Completing a Food Science degree from the University of Guelph and working in industry for years, my passion for food blossomed. Starting as a chocolate sensory specialist (yes, I tasted chocolate for a living!) and working my way to Quality Assurance Manager wasn’t enough. That is to say, I wanted to work directly with people through nutrition. For this reason, I completed my Food and Nutrition degree from Toronto Metropolitan University, graduating with a 3.96 GPA. After interning at The Hospital for Sick Children and working in healthcare, I took the leap and opened my fertility focussed nutrition practice.

Specializing in Fertility

After completing specialized education on reproductive health, I launched my private practice—Live and Love Nutrition—and became an expert fertility dietitian.

Personal Growth

Balancing my roles as a mother, wife, entrepreneur, friend, volunteer, and home cook has been both rewarding and challenging. Through this journey, the importance of creating practical, family-friendly nutrition strategies was born. The goal is for my clients to feel empowered, not overwhelmed, by their fertility nutrition goals. Nutrition should be simple, approachable, and tailored to meet their unique needs.

Creating Resources

As a fertility nutritionist, wanting to make reliable nutrition advice accessible to more people. This inspired me to write and launch my cookbook, Boost Your Fertility Cookbook. It’s a thoughtfully curated collection of nutrient-dense, fertility-friendly recipes designed to make eating for reproductive health both delicious and manageable.
